Understanding the tricks for tennis preview and predictions

Odds calculate how much a bettor will win on any bet made, if they are accurate and correctly forecast the result, as they do in all types of sports betting.

Tennis odds are viewed in three ways with tennis previews and predictions:

  • In the United Kingdom and Ireland, fractional is a common format.
  • Decimal – Decimal is widely used in Europe and the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Moneyline is a game that is very common in North America.
  • Sports betting can never be an absolute science, no matter how professional a bettor or tennis tipster is, since all athletic competitions are subject to human error.
  • The rules of chance, on the other hand, decide whether a given result is more or less likely to occur.

Let’s start with the most basic question for Daily Tennis Predictions: what do tennis betting odds mean? What does it mean when a player is given 1.75 odds to win a Grand Slam match? Betting odds reflect the uncertainty (also known as the “implied probability”) of a certain result happening. If a player is favoured by 1.75 to win a contest, the odds show the bookmaker’s estimate of the player’s probability of winning.

Tennis odds in action

Rafael Nadal was the top seed and world number one heading into the 2014 Australian Open in Melbourne. Nadal was coming off a spectacular comeback to top form in 2013, when he captured the French and US Opens, as well as nine other titles, after recovering from injury. After effortlessly dispatching Roger Federer in the semifinals, Nadal was a clear 1.18 favourite to win the 2014 Australian Open final against Stan Wawrinka. At those odds, a £10 bet on Nadal to win will return £11.80, plus the initial £10 stake, with a benefit of just £1.80.

With an 84.75 percent chance of winning, Nadal was the favourite.

Stan Wawrinka was a major 5.60 underdog in the final against Rafael Nadal after playing his best tennis of his career and beating defending champion Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. This was largely due to his 12-match losing streak against the Spaniard, during which Wawrinka had struggled to secure a single set.

Bet only when you have a value

It probably doesn’t need to be said (again! ), but it is important. Just gamble when there is a good chance of winning. Any tennis betting plan should give you the opportunity to spot value bets on the court. Any tennis betting device worth its salt should break down each matchup and leave you with just a few contests where betting value exists.

Specialize

With too many tennis tournaments being played in both the men’s and women’s circuits during the year, it’s better to concentrate on what you do best and specialize.

It’s simply impractical to thoroughly analyze any upcoming tennis match (unless you’ve developed a sophisticated betting model). Many active tennis bettors specialize on a specific sport, such as men’s or women’s tennis, the Challenger tour, or just Grand Slam tournaments.

Similarly, concentrate on tennis bet styles and markets in which you are more acquainted. Some gamblers concentrate only on handicaps, while others devise methods for finding merit in both fixed and game totals.
